The European Union funded the UMUCO W’ITERAMBERE project as a part of a broader Resilience Program for Burundi, which was awarded to three consortia. EnGreen provided technical assistance to the consortium led by AVSI Foundation in partnership with the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) for the access to electricity component, which aimed to provide access to a modern, efficient and sustainable basic energy service for rural populations of the country.
The project targeted 28 hills in the provinces of Kayanza, Ngozi and Kirundo, by providing access to electricity for basic services to 25 schools (integrated with new productive hubs) and 7 health centers (integrated with new energy kiosks), as well constructing 12 Multi-Service Stations for productive activities. EnGreen has been involved for providing technical assistance throughout the entire project cycle, from the proposal design to the start-up phase, as well as for proving a training course for local maintenance workers.
