From Renewable Capacity to Real Market Deployment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>LUMENS (Leading Utility-scale RES Market Expansion towards Next-generation Energy Systems) is a Horizon Europe project focused on accelerating the integration of utility-scale renewable energy plants into the European energy system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project addresses one of the key bottlenecks of the energy transition: moving from installed capacity to real market integration\u2014ensuring that large-scale solar and wind plants are not only built, but effectively operated, accepted, and economically viable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Total project cost: \u20ac 1,999,506.25<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why it matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Europe is scaling renewable energy, but not fast enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grid constraints, regulatory complexity, limited flexibility, and growing local opposition (\u201cNot In My Backyard\u201d and \u201cNot In My Grid\u201d) are slowing down deployment and undermining project viability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, uncertainty around market dynamics and investment frameworks makes large-scale projects harder to finance and operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without addressing these structural barriers, renewable energy cannot fully deliver on its role in achieving net-zero targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What the project does<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LUMENS works on three interconnected levels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stakeholder engagement<\/strong><br>Building a multi-actor ecosystem involving TSOs, DSOs, market operators, developers, and local stakeholders to align technical, regulatory, and social perspectives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Knowledge and tools<\/strong><br>Developing an open-source toolkit with analytical and decision-support tools for:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>plant location and sizing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hybridisation strategies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>market performance prediction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>operational optimisation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Market and policy framework<\/strong><br>Producing actionable insights on:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>financial models and risk mitigation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>regulatory frameworks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>grid integration and flexibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>social acceptance strategies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The project focuses primarily on <strong>utility-scale photovoltaic and wind plants<\/strong>, as key drivers of decarbonisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expected impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>LUMENS contributes to making large-scale renewable energy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More competitive<\/strong><br>by improving planning, operation, and market integration of RES plants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More bankable<\/strong><br>through clearer financial and regulatory frameworks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More accepted<\/strong><br>by addressing social and environmental concerns early in the process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More integrated<\/strong><br>by improving grid flexibility and system resilience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, the project supports the transition toward a <strong>cost-effective, secure, and scalable renewable energy system in Europe<\/strong>, aligned with 2030 net-zero targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Engreen\u2019s role<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Engreen leads stakeholder engagement activities within LUMENS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus is on understanding and addressing the factors that influence the social acceptance of utility-scale renewable energy projects, through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>advanced analytics and behavioural studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>participatory co-design processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>direct interaction with local and sector stakeholders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This work ensures that technical solutions are
