The Challenge
As Africa accelerates its transition to renewable energy, the shortage of skilled technicians and engineers remains a major obstacle — particularly in the deployment of decentralized renewable energy (DRE) solutions critical for rural electrification.
In Morocco and across the continent, there is a pressing need to strengthen vocational education, align training with real-world market needs, and prepare a new generation of professionals to lead the energy transition.
To address this, RES4Africa Foundation launched an initiative to create a Technical and Vocational School on Decentralized Renewable Energy Solutions in Morocco, with the ambition to deliver market-driven, hands-on training programs that empower young African talent.
EnGreen’s Solution
Selected for its proven expertise in renewable energy capacity building, EnGreen has taken the lead in designing and delivering a cutting-edge, future-proof program based in Morocco:
- Curriculum Revision Tailored to Africa’s Energy Challenges
EnGreen updated and expanded the Micro-Grid Academy framework into a modern, comprehensive curriculum, integrating new modules on grid-connected mini-grids, hybrid off-grid systems for emergencies, productive use of energy (e-mobility, cooling, clean cooking), and financial modeling for sustainable energy projects. - Hands-On Training at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University
The program is hosted at the prestigious Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco, offering trainees an immersive, practical learning experience. Field-based exercises, case studies from real African projects, and energy system simulations ensure that participants gain applicable, real-world skills. - Strengthening Business and Financial Skills
In addition to technical training, EnGreen developed dedicated modules on business models, project finance, and investment strategies for renewable energy, empowering participants to create viable enterprises and scalable solutions in their home countries. - Localized Expertise and Contextual Adaptation
Leveraging strong partnerships with Moroccan research institutes, universities, and private sector actors, EnGreen adapted the training content to reflect Morocco’s renewable energy ecosystem, regulatory frameworks, and innovation priorities — while maintaining alignment with broader African energy transition goals. - Promoting Inclusion and Long-Term Impact
The program is built with a strong emphasis on gender inclusion and youth empowerment, fostering leadership among a diverse new generation of African energy professionals.
Our Impact
By establishing a world-class technical and vocational training program in Morocco, EnGreen is equipping African professionals with the technical, business, and leadership skills needed to drive decentralized renewable energy deployment across the continent.
This project supports not only Morocco’s leadership in renewable energy innovation but also RES4Africa’s broader mission of a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition for Africa.
